Lessons of longing

Deep, in your world
there’s a city
it’s here you pray.
You’re basking in our foolishness,
blind to the loaded dice rolling,
taking chances with our patience.

I’m your altar,
worship at me,
give up prayers.
You’re asking for our salvation,
always clenching to thinning hopes,
those who gamble with gods suffer.

Please bathe our love,
take baptism,
ignorant fools.
Blessing us with holy water,
may they forgive us for trying,
we wanted each other too much.
